Masterplan

The Nemours Mansion is the former residence of industrialist Alfred I. duPont. The design of the house and gardens was based on that of the Petite Trianon at Versailles. The new Visitor Center was part of a recent renovation to the Nemours Mansion and Gardens. The Visitor Center provides an introduction to the house and allows visitors to experience the formal entrance as it was originally intended; it also acts as a portal through which visitors learn about the context of the house and the family. The building was influenced by vernacular architecture of the surrounding Brandywine Valley: stone barns, and gun-powder mills, while the landscape reflects the french style of the mansion and its formal gardens.

This work was performed by Sarah Trautvetter as Landscape Designer at Ayers/Saint/Gross.
