This interior courtyard provides a terrace for the first floor residents, as well as a communal entry-way for the second and third floor residents and the owner of the rear carriage house. The existing conditions of cracked concrete, drastic slope and poor drainage lent it a dismal air. Raising the grade of the terrace and adding two steps between the terrace and the rear entry-way, created two distinct spaces. Replacing the concrete with brick and creating small garden beds of evergreens and perennials provided a simple but lovely courtyard for this historic Bolton Hill residence.
